Warning Siren Operation
1. SEVERE WEATHER WARNING SIREN – A solid blow of the siren for about thirty (30) seconds will be blown when Carroll County is issued a THUNDERSTORM WARNING. (Residents should take shelter indoors and tune into your local TV or Radio Station for weather information.)
When Carroll County is issued a TORNADO WARNING or conditions in our immediate area become life threatening, the siren will sound a solid blow for about three (3) minutes. (Residents should take shelter in the basement or other safe location of their home. If you do not have a basement, go to a small room, closet, or bathroom without outside walls or windows.)
THERE WILL BE NO ALL CLEAR SIREN
(Tune into your local TV or Radio Station for weather information.)
2. EMERGENCY/EVACUATION SIREN – A long, high tone going down to a long, low tone siren that continues for approximately three (3) minutes. (This siren will blow in the event of a SHELTER IN PLACE emergency.)
A. SHELTER IN PLACE EMERGENCY – Stay indoors at your existing location. Additional precautions such as turning off Heating and Air Conditioning systems, ventilation systems, and closing windows and doors should be adhered to. SHELTER IN PLACE can be used when there is little or no time to react to a hazardous incident and there would be more danger to be outside trying to evacuate than to stay in place.
B. EMERGENCY EVACUATION – This notification will be from the Fire Department or other Emergency Personnel utilizing public address equipment in Fire trucks or cars. Information will be given on the type of emergency, evacuation routes, and other pertinent information.
C. PRECAUTIONARY EVACUATION – This notification will be from the Fire Department or other Emergency Personnel utilizing door-to-door sweeps. Information will be given on the type of emergency, evacuation routes, and other pertinent information. Relocation will be a result of a potential hazardous incident that may affect the evacuation area.
THERE WILL BE NO ALL CLEAR SIREN
(Tune into your local TV or Radio Station for other information.)
3. FIRE SIREN – This siren will make a wobbling sound (short high, then low tone) for a cycle of just three (3) blows. (This siren will be used by the Fire Department during daytime hours for the ambulance and fire call. This is to alert Fire Department members of a call and to warn residents to be aware of Fire Department personnel responding to an emergency call.)
